Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to resemble Dolly Parton, regardless of which stage of her career, she might consider selecting you to be a part of a Broadway musical based on her life.
Indeed, Parton has shared that she is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.
She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has been a significant aspiration of hers for a long time. She emphasizes that this is the goal she absolutely wants to achieve while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow people from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their previous experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she could possibly lead a contest called "Finding Dolly," where they would conduct a widespread search to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a younger Dolly, an earlier years Dolly, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.
"We will be conducting auditions and using various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "You never know where these individuals may be found. They might have never performed on stage before or have only been involved in local theater productions. However, we will actively seek them out, and I believe this search will add to the excitement."
Parton has mentioned the idea of a musical based on her life before, not just once. She has casually mentioned it in various interviews. The singer expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25," as per her recent discussion with People magazine.
