Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dreams: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for those who strongly resemble her, regardless of which stage of her career they resemble. She is considering the possibility of casting the winner in a Broadway production that tells the story of her life.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People.

She expresses that it has always been a significant goal of hers to perform and debut her show on Broadway. It is something she has been determined to achieve for a long time. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This includes not only those with extensive musical theater experience, but people from all walks of life.

Parton suggests that she might even lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide talent search will be conducted to discover actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.

"We will be holding auditions and exploring various avenues to discover talent. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for others," Parton adds. "It's exciting because you never know where you might come across these individuals. They may have never stepped foot on a stage before, or perhaps they have participated in small local theaters. Regardless, our search for them will be an exciting and enjoyable part of the journey."

Dolly Parton has previously mentioned the idea of a musical based on her life in various interviews. In her latest conversation with People, she expressed her desire to have the show ready for production by late 2025.

The country music icon has several career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton mentioned her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
