Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is searching for individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the time period in her career, as she has plans to potentially cast them in a Broadway production based on her own life.
Indeed, Parton has recently disclosed to People that she is actively engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical.
She expresses that one of her biggest goals has always been to go on Broadway and have her own show. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.
In that manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, which includes the unconventional decision to extend casting opportunities to aspiring Dollys from various backgrounds, rather than solely focusing on individuals with extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton mentioned that she could potentially be leading a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide talent search would take place to find actors to play three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a younger Dolly, Dolly in her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as explained by the singer.
"We will be conducting auditions and searching for talented individuals using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton adds. "You never know where you might discover them. They could be individuals who have never been on stage or perhaps have only performed in local theaters. But our search for these individuals will definitely add to the excitement, I believe."
This isn't the first occasion where Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical inspired by her life. She has casually mentioned it in a few interviews in the past. Parton expressed her desire to see the production come together by the end of 2025, as per her recent discussion with People magazine.
