Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is open to considering individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the particular period in her career. The purpose behind this is to potentially choose someone to play her character in a Broadway musical that revolves around her life.

Indeed, Parton has recently disclosed to People that she is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical.

She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a significant goal for her. She emphasizes that this is the one goal she wants to ensure she accomplishes while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make innovative choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their level of experience in musical theater.

Parton mentions that she could possibly lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide search for talented individuals would take place to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.

"We will be holding auditions and utilizing various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton expresses. "It's exciting because you never know where we may come across these individuals. They might not have had prior experience performing on stage, or they could have been involved in a small theater production. Nonetheless, we will actively search for them, and that aspect will contribute to the enjoyment of this endeavor, in my opinion."

Parton has hinted at the concept of a musical about her life before, mentioning it occasionally in interviews. In her recent discussion with People, she expressed her desire to see the show come to life by "late '25."

Dolly Parton, the iconic country singer, has shared that she has numerous career aspirations that she is currently striving to achieve. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton expressed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
