Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dreams: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to look very similar to Dolly Parton, regardless of which stage of her career you resemble, she might consider selecting you to be a part of a Broadway musical that revolves around her life.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she shared with People magazine.

She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a significant goal for her. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their previous experience in musical theater.

Parton reveals that she may take charge of a competition called "Finding Dolly," which aims to search for talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.

"We will be conducting auditions and using various methods to discover them. I believe this will also be enjoyable for people," Parton adds. "You never know where you might come across them. They could be individuals who have never performed on stage before or perhaps have only been involved in local theater, but we will actively search for them, and I believe that will add to the excitement."

Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life before, casually mentioning it in various interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show come to life by the end of 2025, as mentioned in her recent conversation with People magazine.

The country music icon has a few career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton shared her desire to create her own television network in the near future.
