Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dreams: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is on the lookout for individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the period in her career, as she is considering casting them in a Broadway production that will focus on her life.

Indeed, Parton has recently disclosed to People that she is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical.

For a long time, she has had a significant goal of performing and debuting her show on Broadway. She expresses that this is the most important goal she wants to achieve while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to give a chance to individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This includes not only those with extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton suggests that she may even lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide talent search will take place to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.

"We will be holding auditions and using various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will be enjoyable for everyone," Parton adds. "It's exciting because you never know where these individuals may be found. They could be individuals who have never performed on stage before or perhaps they have only been involved in local theater. However, we are determined to search for them and that will add to the excitement, I believe."

Parton has mentioned the idea of a musical about her life before, but this is not the first time. In a recent interview with People, the singer expressed her desire to have the show ready for production by the end of 2025.

The country music icon has a number of career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton shared her desire to create her own television network in the near future.
