Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is searching for individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the period in her career, as she wants to potentially select them to portray her in a Broadway production based on her life.
Indeed, Parton has recently disclosed to People that she is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical.
She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show has been a significant goal for her for a long time. She emphasizes that this is the one thing she wants to ensure she accomplishes while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This includes not exclusively considering candidates with extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton suggests that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where there will be a wide search for talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, an earlier stage in Dolly's life, and an older Dolly.
"We will be holding auditions and searching for them using various methods. I believe this will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "You never know where you might come across them. They could be completely new to the stage or have performed in a small local theater. However, our search for them will be an exciting part of the process, I believe."
Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in various interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25," as per her recent discussion with People magazine.
The country music icon has expressed her desire to fulfill multiple career aspirations, including the creation of her own television network. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton mentioned her plans to make this dream a reality in the near future.
