Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you closely resemble Dolly Parton, regardless of the era of her career, she might consider selecting you to be a part of a Broadway musical based on her life.

Indeed, it is true. Parton has disclosed to People that she is presently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical.

She expresses that going to Broadway and having her own show open there has been a significant goal for her for a long time. It is the one goal that she wants to ensure she accomplishes while she is still alive and able to be actively involved in it.

In that manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, which includes the unconventional decision to extend casting to potential Dollys from diverse backgrounds, rather than solely considering individuals with extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton reveals that she might take charge of a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide-ranging talent search will be conducted to select actors for three distinct versions of the main character. These three versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.

"We will be holding auditions and exploring various methods to discover these individuals. I believe it will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton explains. "You never know where we will come across them. They might not have any prior experience on stage or could have performed in a small local theater. However, our search for them will be an exciting aspect, in my opinion."

Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life before, casually discussing it in various interviews. In her most recent conversation with People, she expressed her desire to see the show come to fruition by the end of 2025.

Dolly Parton, the famous country singer, has shared that she has multiple career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton mentioned her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
