Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to look very similar to Dolly Parton, no matter which era of her career you resemble, she might consider selecting you to be a part of a Broadway musical that tells the story of her life.
Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of creating a musical based on her own life, as she disclosed to People.
She expresses that one of her long-standing goals has always been to go on Broadway and have her own show there. It is a significant aspiration for her and she wants to ensure that she accomplishes it while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, including the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This includes individuals who may not necessarily have extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she might even lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they will conduct a wide search for talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions will include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.
Parton explains that they will be holding auditions and exploring various methods to discover talented individuals. Parton believes this process will be enjoyable for everyone because the search for these individuals can lead them to unexpected places. These individuals may have little to no experience performing on stage or may have only participated in small local theater productions. Nevertheless, Parton finds the search for these hidden talents to be an exciting part of the whole experience.
Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical centered around her life in various interviews. In her most recent discussion with People, she expressed her desire to see the production come to fruition by "late '25."
The country legend has multiple career dreams that she is actively pursuing. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton expressed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
