The Trauma Behind the Hit Show ‘Nashville’: Hayden Panettiere Opens Up

  • by

In a recent interview, Hayden Panettiere, known for her role in the popular show 'Nashville', revealed that despite the success she achieved through the series, filming it had a profound impact on her mental well-being, describing it as a "very traumatizing" experience.

Panettiere played the role of a country singer named Juliette Barnes on the TV show Nashville, which aired from 2012 to 2018. She has been quite vocal about her challenges with alcohol, opioids, and post-partum depression. In a recent interview, she revealed that the show's writers drew heavily from her own experiences to shape her character's storylines, making the filming process particularly challenging for her.

Right from the start, it felt like I was dating a football player and then Juliette starts dating one too," Panettiere explains. "And then they portrayed her as an alcoholic. After that, they had her abandon her daughter and go to some crazy place in Europe, and it was very obvious… They were not putting in the effort to come up with new storylines. They were just looking at my life and saying, 'Oh, let's just take what she's going through and put our own twist on it.' And then, voila! It's finished."

Panettiere acknowledges that her time on Nashville was immensely fulfilling in terms of her professional growth. However, she describes the experience as deeply distressing since she felt as though she was reliving her personal life through her acting.

Panettiere is planning to go on a tour called "A Conversation With Hayden Panettiere" across three cities. The purpose of this tour is to inspire and support individuals who are facing similar challenges as she has.
