Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, once had an impact on an MLB player's batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell gained recognition for his unique and non-traditional way of holding the bat while batting. He would raise it high up in the air, leaving everyone puzzled about the reason behind this technique. Surprisingly, Counsell never provided any explanation for his unconventional stance.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention, where he was questioned about his previous habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell explains that during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he was not skilled in hitting and struggled to make any successful hits.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a powerful ball towards the left field. Excitedly, I thought to myself, "Finally! My first hit of the game!" With determination, I swiftly ran towards first base, oblivious to the roaring cheers from the crowd. Suddenly, when I glanced up, I was astonished to see Garth Brooks making an incredible diving catch in left field, preventing me from breaking my 0-4 streak.
The individuals present at the press conference found this narrative incredibly amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a self-reflection and pondered, "Why am I unable to achieve any successful hits?" This inner dialogue motivated me to raise my hands high up in the air. Surprisingly, this action proved to be beneficial!

Brooks, who is renowned as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a passion for sports during his childhood. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not secure a spot on the team.
