Not too far in the past, the emerging talent was an average 16-year-old who attended a concert of one of his beloved country music artists.

At the age of 16, I went on a date with a girl to see Thomas Rhett perform at Ascend Amphitheater. We sat on the lawn section of the venue. During the show, Thomas Rhett played his song "Die a Happy Man," and I attempted to slow dance with the girl I was with, trying to be romantic and affectionate.

Smith mentions that the following day, his partner ended their relationship.

We have a moment of laughter, and then he proceeds to tell the story. He mentions that about 4 years later, he was on tour with Rhett, and at that point, he felt like he had the satisfaction of having the final laugh in that situation.

Smith has shared this story with the audience on multiple occasions and it has become a beloved choice among listeners.
