Garth Brooks was able to influence a professional baseball player, Craig Counsell, to alter his technique at batting when he was still actively playing in the MLB. Craig Counsell, now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a prosperous career as a professional baseball player for 12 years, starting from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell gained recognition for his unique and unconventional way of positioning himself while batting. He would hold his bat high up in the air, but the reason behind this technique remained a mystery to everyone. Interestingly, Counsell never provided an explanation for his distinctive stance.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell attended the 2024 Cubs Convention, where someone finally inquired about the reason behind his habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell clarifies that during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he struggled as a hitter and was unable to achieve any successful hits.
During spring training, I was thrilled when I hit a powerful hit towards the left field. I felt a sense of accomplishment as it was my first base hit. Excitedly, I lowered my head and swiftly ran towards first base. The crowd erupted in wild cheers, adding to my excitement. However, when I glanced up, I was taken aback to see that Garth Brooks had made an incredible diving catch in left field. Unfortunately, this impressive play extended my streak of not getting any hits to 0-4.
The individuals attending the press conference found this narrative to be extremely amusing.
The following day, I was freed from my previous obligations. I took some time to reflect and had a conversation with myself, questioning why I was unable to achieve any successful outcomes. This reflection ultimately prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it made a positive impact on my situation.
Garth Brooks is responsible for my terrible batting stance.
Brooks, who is widely regarded as one of the most celebrated figures in the music industry, also had a passion for sports during his childhood. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not succeed in securing a spot on the team.
