Garth Brooks had an impact on an MLB hitter's batting stance in the past. Craig Counsell, the current manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a professional baseball player for over a decade, starting in 1995 and ending in 2007.
Counsell gained recognition for his unique and unorthodox way of holding a bat while batting. He would elevate his bat significantly above the ground, leaving everyone curious about the reason behind his approach. Interestingly, Counsell never provided an explanation for his distinctive batting stance.
After Counsell was appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, he participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. It was during this event that someone finally inquired about the reason behind his practice of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
According to Counsell, during his time at spring training with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he admits to not being a proficient hitter and struggling to make successful hits.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a powerful ball towards the left field. I felt a surge of excitement, thinking that it would be my first hit of the game. With my head down, I quickly sprinted towards first base. The crowd erupted with immense enthusiasm at my hit. However, when I looked up, I was stunned to see that Garth Brooks, who was playing in left field, had made a remarkable diving catch. This unfortunate turn of events extended my streak of not getting any hits to 0-4.
The individuals attending the press conference found this tale to be extremely amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in some self-reflection, questioning why I was unable to achieve any success. This prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, which surprisingly had a positive impact on my situation.
I hold Garth Brooks responsible for a terrible position while batting.
Brooks, who is considered one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a passion for sports during his early years. He actively participated in baseball and track and field. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he unfortunately did not succeed in securing a spot on the team.
