Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, was able to influence a professional baseball player to alter his batting stance in the past. Craig Counsell, who is currently the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a professional baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell gained notoriety for his unusual approach to batting, as he would hold his bat elevated in the air, leaving everyone perplexed about the reasoning behind his stance. Surprisingly, he never offered any explanation for it either.
Upon being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. At this event, someone finally inquired about the reason behind his previous practice of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell explains that during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he struggled as a hitter and was unable to get any hits.
During spring training, I hit a powerful hit towards the left field. I was thrilled because it was my first base hit. Excitedly, I lowered my head and quickly ran towards first base. The crowd erupted in wild cheers. However, when I glanced up, I was surprised to see that Garth Brooks had unexpectedly made a diving catch in left field, preventing me from breaking my 0-4 streak.
The people attending the press conference were highly amused by this story.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a personal conversation, questioning myself, "Why am I unable to achieve any successes?" This contemplation eventually led me to physically raise my hands high up in the air. Surprisingly, this action proved to be beneficial and improved my situation.

Brooks, who is widely recognized as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a background in sports during his younger years. He actively participated in baseball and track and field events. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, he was unable to secure a spot on the team.
