Garth Brooks, the famous country singer, was able to influence a professional baseball player to alter his batting stance. Craig Counsell, who is now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, had a successful career as a professional baseball player spanning from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique batting stance where he would hold his bat high up in the air. The reason behind this unconventional stance remained a mystery to everyone, as Counsell never provided an explanation for it.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, someone inquired about the reason behind his previous habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell describes his experience as a baseball player with the Los Angeles Dodgers during spring training. He admits that he was not skilled in hitting and struggled to achieve any successful hits during that time.
During spring training, I managed to hit a powerful hit towards the left field. I was overjoyed, thinking it would be my first successful base hit. With excitement, I lowered my head and swiftly made my way towards first base. The crowd erupted with wild enthusiasm. However, when I lifted my head to see the outcome, I was taken aback to witness Garth Brooks surprisingly making a stunning diving catch in left field, thereby prolonging my unsuccessful streak of not getting any hits in the game.
The people attending the press conference found this story very amusing.
The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a conversation with myself, questioning why I was unable to achieve any successful hits. This self-reflection prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air. Surprisingly, this action proved to be beneficial and had a positive impact on my performance.

Brooks, who is widely regarded as one of the most successful music artists of all time, also had a passion for sports during his earlier years. He participated in baseball and track and field events as an athlete. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, Brooks unfortunately did not manage to secure a spot on the team.
