Garth Brooks, a renowned country singer, once had an impact on the batting stance of a professional baseball player in the MLB. Craig Counsell, the current manager of the Chicago Cubs, was previously known for his impressive batting skills during his time as a major league baseball player from 1995 to 2007.
Counsell was famous for his unique approach to batting, as he would hold his bat in the air in an unconventional manner. The reason behind this peculiar technique remained a mystery, as he never provided an explanation for it.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention, during which he was questioned about the reason behind his habit of holding the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the responsibility to Garth Brooks.
Counsell admits that he did not excel in batting skills during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He specifically recalls struggling to get any hits while attending spring training with the team.
During spring training, I confidently struck a powerful hit towards the left field. I felt a surge of excitement as I thought it would be my first base hit. Determined, I lowered my head and began sprinting towards first base. The crowd erupted with exhilaration, their cheers filling the air. However, when I glanced up, I was stunned to see that Garth Brooks had unexpectedly made an impressive diving catch in left field, thereby prolonging my streak of not getting any hits in the game.
The individuals present at the press conference found this narrative to be extremely amusing.
The following day, I was let go. I had a conversation with myself, questioning why I was unable to achieve any successes. This self-reflection prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it made a positive difference.

Brooks, who is widely regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the music industry, had a passion for sports during his childhood. He actively participated in baseball and track and field. Despite having three opportunities to join the New York Mets, Brooks was unable to secure a spot on the team.
