The current manager of the Chicago Cubs, Craig Counsell, had an impressive career as a professional baseball player for over a decade, starting in 1995 and ending in 2007.
Counsell gained a reputation for his unique and unconventional batting stance where he would hold his bat high up in the air. The reason behind this peculiar stance remained a mystery to everyone, as Counsell never provided any explanation for it.
After being appointed as the manager of the Chicago Cubs, Counsell participated in the 2024 Cubs Convention. During the event, someone inquired about the reason behind his habit of positioning the bat at a high position in the air.
He attributes the blame to Garth Brooks.
Counsell clarifies that during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers at spring training, he struggled as a hitter and was unable to achieve any successful hits.
During a spring training game, I successfully hit a strong ball towards the left field. I was elated, thinking it was my first hit of the game. Excitedly, I lowered my head and hurried towards first base. The crowd erupted in wild cheers and applause. However, as I lifted my head, I was taken aback to see that Garth Brooks, the famous musician, had made a remarkable diving catch in left field, preventing my hit and adding to my ongoing streak of not getting any hits in the game.

The following day, I was set free. I engaged in a conversation with myself, questioning why I was unable to achieve any successes. This self-reflection prompted me to raise my hands high up in the air, and surprisingly, it proved to be beneficial.
