Morgan Wallen expresses his dissatisfaction with the release of his record and unexpectedly unveils a new rendition of his song "Spin You Around." It appears that Wallen had no intentions of re-recording or re-releasing the track, and his reluctance is evident.
On Friday, the artist released a heartfelt acoustic love song to his fans, revealing that he was compelled to do so due to a choice he made a decade ago.
Aside from criticizing the timing of the release, Wallen also expressed negative views about the music.
Associated: Morgan Wallen compiles a roster of the top 40 songs that have been widely listened to in the past five decades.
According to the writer, a few of the songs were decent, but the majority of them were awful because he was still new to writing and trying to understand the process. He clarifies that he wasn't the only person involved in creating these songs, so many of them were not his concept and did not meet his personal standards.
Morgan Wallen's Stand Alone EP has gained almost 400 million streams on Spotify. Among the popular tracks, "Spin You Alone" from the previous version has reached 240 million streams. The EP also features songs like "Sleep When We're Dead" and "Yin Yang Girl." While the project primarily showcases a country-rock sound, it still incorporates Wallen's signature hip-hop influence.
Paul Trust and Sergio Sanchez, who is the lead singer of the rock band Atom Smash, collaborated with Wallen to write all 13 songs on this album. Although these songs may not have the same level of intensity as the music he would later produce, fans will still be able to identify the catchy rhythm in new tracks such as "Going Down" and the smooth, relaxed melody in songs like "Scared to Live Without You."
In 2014, Wallen participated in Season 6 of The Voice, so it is likely that the songwriting session for these songs took place shortly after that, around 18-24 months before he officially joined Big Loud Records. He admits to recording for Panacea and also signing an artist management agreement.
Regrettably, Wallen clarifies that he agreed to both contracts without the assistance of a lawyer.
"2 of Us Alone" is an instance of a song that one might feel remorseful about. The song features a weak and unimpressive arrangement, and the vocalist's current performance is hardly identifiable in 2024.
In "Afterglow," Wallen is supported by piano and acoustic guitar, creating a sound that appeals to fans of soft rock from the early 2000s. On the other hand, "Man of the South" and "Bonfire Jam" cater to a more mainstream rock audience. If producer Trust were to release these songs as his leading work in Nashville, it is unlikely that he would receive new opportunities.
Morgan Wallen wants to clarify to his fans that the recently released album is not his upcoming project. However, he assures them that he will be going back to the studio in February to record new music.
He expresses discomfort when he hears these songs.
The production of this new acoustic version of "Spin You Around" was led by Joey Moi, who also gave his approval. Wallen mentioned that he recorded it in Nashville this week, and he was also responsible for designing the cover art of the song.
In order to give back, he has made the decision to contribute $100,000 from the Morgan Wallen Foundation to support the Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts program. This donation aims to assist young musicians who may face similar challenges.
