Do you recall Scotty McCreery's unforgettable audition on 'American Idol'? It was evident from the start that he was a strong contender to win Season 10 of the show. This memorable audition was broadcasted on Jan. 26, 2011, and it remains one of the standout moments in the long history of this renowned singing competition.
At the time of his audition for Idol, McCreery was only 16 years old. The judges on the panel, which included Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, saw a young and skinny McCreery with a buzzcut hairstyle. However, despite his age, McCreery already had a deep and impressive baritone voice, which would later help him become the standout contestant of his season on Idol.
Before he started singing, the contestant from Garner, N.C., impressed the judges with his charm. Jennifer Lopez, in particular, seemed to take a liking to him right away and engaged in friendly banter with him. She even exclaimed, "I hope you have a great singing voice!"
During his audition, McCreery showcased his impressive vocal abilities by singing "Your Man" by Josh Turner, emphasizing his strong lower range. In order to demonstrate his versatility, Tyler requested McCreery to showcase the higher part of his vocal range. In response, McCreery delivered a powerful rendition of "Put Some Drive in Your Country" by Travis Tritt.
"Oh my goodness, keep some matches for later, have intimate relations with a duck and observe what comes out," Tyler expressed in shock.
After that, chaos ensued in the room as the other judges, technicians, and producers were taken by surprise and became flustered by the unexpected comment. However, the composed young man calmly responded, "It's nothing I haven't heard before in high school, my friend."
All the judges were confident in their decision to advance McCreery to the competition, and he consistently delivered impressive performances week after week. At the age of 17, he achieved victory on May 25, 2011, in Season 10 of American Idol, making him one of the program's youngest champions ever.
