Eric Church and Glen Campbell Unite in Touching Posthumous Duet “Hold on Hope

  • by

Country music enthusiasts, both those who prefer traditional and contemporary styles, will be delighted to hear the collaboration between Eric Church and the late Glen Campbell on the song "Hold on Hope". The duet version was released on Friday, January 26.

The unexpected release is included in the upcoming reimagined edition of Campbell's 2011 album Ghost on the Canvas, which is set to be released on April 19th through Surfdog Records and Big Machine Label Group after the artist's passing.

The emotional song was written by Robert Pollard. In this song, Church and Campbell take turns singing each of the four verses. The verses tell the story of a tired individual who honestly reflects on life, feeling lonely, and holding onto the belief that tomorrow will be brighter.

Each road is dimly lit and unfolding in a mysterious manner, as we navigate the uncertain paths we choose to follow. We are constantly striving, extending our reach for a helping hand that remains invisible to us. It seems that everyone holds onto a glimmer of hope, and for me, it is the very last thing that keeps me going. These poignant lyrics are accompanied by the gentle strumming of an acoustic guitar.

They extend an invitation to the final dance, signaling that it is time to depart. However, this is the consequence we face when we deceive each other. Referring to someone as an "animal mother," they highlight how she freely exposes herself. The second verse proceeds with the statement that everyone possesses a glimmer of hope, which is the only thing keeping the speaker anchored. This is accompanied by intensifying drumbeats in the song.

Included on the album "Glen Campbell Duets – Ghost on the Canvas Sessions" are songs where Glen Campbell collaborated with various artists such as Dolly Parton, Sting, Daryl Hall, Carole King, and Eric Clapton. One of the tracks on the album is a rendition of "Nothing But the Whole Wide World" performed by Eric Clapton and Glen Campbell.

Campbell, known for his successful songs like "Rhinestone Cowboy," "Gentle on My Mind," and "Southern Nights," passed away on August 8, 2017, at a care facility in Nashville. He had been publicly fighting against Alzheimer's disease for a considerable amount of time.

At the same time, Church is gaining popularity on the country music charts with his latest song "Man Made a Bar," which he collaborated on with Morgan Wallen. Recently, these two famous artists decided to work together again to bring back the print editions of Field & Stream magazine.
