Country music fans, both those who prefer traditional and contemporary styles, have something to look forward to. A new version of Glen Campbell's song "Hold on Hope," featuring a duet with Eric Church, was released on Friday (Jan. 26).
The unexpected release is a part of the updated and reimagined edition of Campbell's album "Ghost on the Canvas" from 2011. This version will be released on April 19th through Surfdog Records and Big Machine Label Group.
The sincere song was composed by Robert Pollard, and in it, Church and Campbell take turns singing each of the four verses. The verses tell the story of a tired individual who honestly reflects on life, feeling lonely, and harboring the optimism of a brighter future.
Each road is shadowy and unfolding in a mysterious manner, presenting an opportunity for us to take a risk and keep striving. We extend our hands to seek support from someone we cannot perceive. Everyone clings onto hope, and for me, it is the one thing that remains. This is sung by Campbell and Church accompanied by acoustic guitar chords.
The first line of the second verse talks about receiving an invitation to the final dance, but then it's time to depart. However, this is the consequence we face when we betray and deceive each other. The lyrics then mention "animal mother," who willingly exposes herself. The following line reflects that everyone holds on to hope, which is the only thing keeping the singer going. All of this is accompanied by an intensifying drumbeat in the track.
The album "Glen Campbell Duets – Ghost on the Canvas Sessions" includes collaborations with various artists such as Dolly Parton, Sting, Daryl Hall, Carole King, and Eric Clapton. One of the songs on the album is a rendition of "Nothing But the Whole Wide World" performed by Eric Clapton and Glen Campbell.
Campbell, known for his popular songs like "Rhinestone Cowboy," "Gentle on My Mind," and "Southern Nights," passed away on August 8, 2017, at a care facility in Nashville. He had been publicly fighting against Alzheimer's disease for a prolonged period.
At present, Church is gaining popularity on the country music charts with his latest song "Man Made a Bar," which is a collaboration with Morgan Wallen. This successful duo has also decided to expand their collaboration by bringing back the print editions of Field & Stream magazine.
