14 Country Legends Who Deserve More Respect: From Dwight Yoakam to the Bellamy Brothers

  • by

There are 14 country music stars who should receive more recognition and appreciation. While it seemed like Dwight Yoakam was the most underrated singer in country music, we recently discovered the impressive credentials of another iconic country artist.

Yoakam's batting average at the CMA, ACM, and Grammy Awards is only .081 (3-37), but he has managed to secure three wins. In comparison, the Bellamy Brothers would be extremely fortunate to achieve the same level of success.

This pair of artists has an astonishing record of 0-29 at the three biggest music shows. No other country duo has received more nominations in this category, yet they have never managed to win. David and Howard Bellamy have been consistently overlooked to the point that they were not even taken into consideration by the Taste of Country team when compiling a list of deserving artists for the Country Music Hall of Fame.

It appeared to be obvious that they would have arrived by now.

You might feel equally as upset as we did about this form of disrespect. We suggest using a stress ball, a CBD gummy (if it's legal for you), or any other method you use to stay calm while scrolling. Below, we have listed 14 artists who deserve more respect. It's important to note that this list only consists of legacy acts.

We will set aside the discussion of contemporary country singers who are not given proper respect for another time.

Included in this list are two incredibly talented female solo artists, as well as three well-known groups. It may come as a surprise, but Billy Ray Cyrus is also featured on this list, which is bound to spark some debate. However, the evidence is clear – it's time to acknowledge and show more respect to him and his 13 peers.
