The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in Nashville, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners of the iconic property had initially planned to tear it down, but changed their minds when they received strong opposition from the public.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, which is now being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
What caused Conway Twitty's home to be in danger of demolition? In December 2023, a tornado hit the area and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, a representative of TBN's real estate division, then proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was done to pave the way for an expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The plan received significant attention from the media.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, TBN has now altered its plans after receiving feedback from the public and having a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional financial burden, the main concern was doing what was considered morally correct.
TBN has not provided any details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the venue to pay tribute to the renowned country star's legacy.
