Conway Twitty’s Historic Mansion Saved: The Story Behind the Preservation

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but after facing public opposition, they have changed their mind.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his well-liked tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

What was the reason for the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home?

In December 2023, a tornado hit the vicinity and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who is responsible for TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make space for the planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. This proposal received significant attention from the media.

After receiving negative feedback in an initial vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN has decided to alter its plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after taking into account public opinion and a meeting between Amedia and Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter, who had previously voiced her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to do something about Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city's residents, praying about it, and discussing it with others. Despite the fact that it will be more expensive, the focus was on doing what was considered the right thing to do.

TBN has not provided any details yet about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the influential legacy of the renowned country musician.
