Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of country music star Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but after receiving public backlash, they decided to reconsider and preserve the historic property.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

The reason for the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home was due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. This natural disaster caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was necessary to create space for an upcoming expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, TBN has decided to alter their plans after taking into account the opinions of the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was influenced by the opinions of the city, prayers, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the main concern was doing what was deemed right.

TBN has not yet disclosed the details of their plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion, however, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property as a way to pay tribute to the influential figure in country music.
