Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved: A Victory for Fans and Preservation

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They decided to transform it into an entertainment complex and it is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's former mansion was at risk of being demolished due to damage caused by a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, to make space for a studio expansion and senior living facilities. This proposal received significant attention and criticism from the media.

After receiving negative feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who opposed the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans following an initial vote against them by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. This decision was made after TBN had a meeting with Amedia.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the added financial burden, the primary concern was doing what was believed to be the right thing.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet, but Amedia, who is involved in the process, expressed his desire to utilize the property in a way that pays tribute to the legendary country artist.
