The former mansion of country music icon Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also a popular tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after his death in 1993, Trinity Broadcasting Network bought the property and transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. In response, Frank Amedia, a representative from TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was done to make space for the planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention from the media.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. According to a report by WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after considering public feedback and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The city's sentiment regarding the future of Conway Twitty's house has been carefully considered. After prayer and discussions with various individuals, it was decided that taking a certain course of action was the most appropriate. Despite the additional expenses involved, the main concern was not the financial aspect.
TBN has not provided any details about their plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia has expressed his interest in utilizing the property to pay tribute to the influential country music legend.
