Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down but changed their decision after facing public backlash.

The late country music legend, Conway Twitty, had an estate in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee. This estate was not only his home but also housed a popular tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex and it is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's former mansion was at risk of being demolished due to damage caused by a tornado in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who works for TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to make room for an expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.

Initially, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously opposed the demolition, TBN has now altered its plans. This decision was reported by WKRN in Nashville.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the additional expenses involved, the primary concern was doing what was deemed right.

TBN has not provided detailed information about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the facility as a way to pay tribute to the influential country music figure.
