The historic mansion previously owned by Conway Twitty, a well-known country music artist, in the Nashville area, has been saved from being torn down. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property but changed their decision after facing public opposition.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also home to the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
The former mansion of Conway Twitty was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the mansion. In response, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was necessary to make room for the planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant media attention and scrutiny.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted in opposition to TBN. After receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously voiced her objections to the demolition, TBN has now decided to alter its plans. This change was reported by WKRN in Nashville.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional cost, the focus was not on the financial aspect but rather doing what was perceived as the right thing to do, taking into account the sentiment of the city and discussions with various individuals.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia had expressed his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the influential figure in country music.
