Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved From Demolition: A Victory for Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but after facing public backlash, they decided to reconsider their actions and preserve the historic property.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location for his well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished for a specific reason. In December of 2023, a tornado hit the area and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested tearing down all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This demolition was necessary to accommodate the planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The media closely examined and scrutinized this proposal.

After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN made this decision after considering feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city's residents, praying about it, and consulting with others. Despite the potential financial implications, the primary concern was doing what was deemed as the right thing to do.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been made public yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to utilize the facility, aims to honor the remarkable legacy of the country icon.
