The former mansion of famous country music artist Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from demolition. The current owners had initially intended to demolish the house, but they changed their minds after receiving backlash from the public.
Twitty's property in the wealthy neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a popular tourist spot called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, Trinity Broadcasting Network bought the property and transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, it is being used as the location for the filming of Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
What caused the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home?
In December of 2023, a tornado hit the area and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia from TBN's real estate division proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was done to create space for the planned expansion of the studio and the development of senior living facilities. The proposed plan received significant attention from the media.
After a vote by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen did not go in favor of TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans following public feedback and a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition. WKRN in Nashville has reported on these developments.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional cost involved, the city felt it was the right thing to do and prioritized the sentiment of its residents over financial concerns.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the establishment as a way to pay tribute to the influential figure in country music.
