The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a country music legend, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to destroy the house but changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Twitty had a property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville. This property was not only his personal estate but also housed a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex and it is currently being used as the location for the filming of Mike Huckabee's show called Huckabee.
The reason for the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home was due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who is responsible for TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This plan aimed to create space for an expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.
Initially, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted against TBN. However, TBN has decided to change its plans after considering public opinion and discussing the matter with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the fact that it will be more expensive, the financial aspect was not the primary concern.
The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia, who previously expressed his desire to preserve the mansion, intends to utilize the venue as a means to pay tribute to the renowned country icon.
