Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from being torn down. The current owners changed their minds about demolishing the iconic home because of public opposition.

After Twitty's passing in 1993, Trinity Broadcasting Network bought his estate in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville. The estate was previously home to Twitty City, a well-liked tourist attraction. However, the property was transformed into an entertainment complex by the network. Currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

The former Twitty mansion was at risk of being demolished due to the damage caused by a tornado in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to make space for the planned expansion of the studio and the establishment of senior living facilities. The media paid close attention to this plan, resulting in intense scrutiny.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who opposed the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans. This change was reported by WKRN in Nashville.

The decision to determine the future of Conway Twitty's house was made after considering the opinions of the city, praying about it, and consulting with individuals. Despite the fact that it will be more expensive, they believed it was the correct course of action.

TBN has not provided any details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia had expressed his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the influential country music figure.
