Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of renowned country music artist Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property but changed their minds after receiving backlash from the public.

Twitty owned a property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville. This property was known as Twitty City and was a popular tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was purchased by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who is responsible for TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to pave the way for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.

After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the network has altered its plans. According to WKRN in Nashville, the decision came after TBN received feedback from the public and held a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.

The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and meetings with people. The city's sentiment was taken into account, and although it will be expensive, the cost was not the main concern.

The details regarding the preservation of the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed by TBN. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the establishment as a way to pay tribute to the renowned country music figure.
