Conway Twitty’s Former Nashville Mansion Saved from Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but after facing public criticism, they decided to reconsider their decision and preserve the iconic home.

Twitty's property, located in the upscale neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee near Nashville, was not only his personal estate but also the location of the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the Trinity Broadcasting Network bought the property and transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the site is being used as a filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

What was the reason for the potential demolition of Conway Twitty's home?

In December of 2023, a tornado hit the region and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who is responsible for TBN's real estate division, then proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to accommodate a planned expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, TBN has decided to alter their plans. This decision came after WKRN in Nashville reported on the situation.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after considering the opinions of the city's residents, praying about it, and consulting with others. Despite the additional cost, the main concern was doing what was deemed right.

The specific details of TBN's plan to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who expressed his desire to utilize the facility, wants to honor the country icon's legacy.
