Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Country Music History

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners changed their minds about their initial plans to demolish the house due to public opposition.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also a renowned tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the Trinity Broadcasting Network acquired the property and transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. This plan received significant attention and criticism from the media.

Following a vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that initially did not favor TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. They made this decision after considering public feedback and engaging in a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition. This change in plans came after TBN heard from the public and had a meeting with Joni Ryles.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional cost, the focus was not on financial implications but on doing what was deemed morally right.

The details of TBN's plan to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. Amedia, however, expressed his desire to utilize the facility in order to pay tribute to the legendary country icon.
