Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a well-known country music artist, has been saved from being torn down in the Nashville area. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the house, but they changed their minds after receiving backlash from the public.

Twitty had a property in the wealthy area of Hendersonville in Nashville, Tennessee. This property was not only his estate but also housed a popular tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, and it is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. The tornado damaged the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. In response, Frank Amedia from TBN's real estate division proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make space for expanding the studio and constructing senior living facilities. This proposal received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, TBN has now altered its plans after receiving feedback from the public and holding a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty. Joni Ryles had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional expenses involved, the priority was to do what was deemed right by the city and its residents.

TBN has not yet provided details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia, who expressed his interest in utilizing the property, intends to use it as a means to pay tribute to the renowned country artist's legacy.
