The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a renowned country music artist, in the Nashville area has been rescued from demolition. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down but changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Twitty's property in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his estate but also the location of his famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished was because it was severely damaged by a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. Frank Amedia, who is in charge of TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to create space for the expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The plan received significant attention from the media.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. After receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter who opposed the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans. This decision comes after WKRN in Nashville reported on the initial vote.
The city's sentiment was carefully considered and discussed by Amedia, who also sought guidance through prayer. After meeting with various individuals, it was ultimately decided that taking a certain course of action, despite the additional expenses it may bring, was the right thing to do.
TBN has not provided any detailed information about how they plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the venue as a way to pay tribute to the influential figure in country music.
