Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Public Outcry

  • by

The historic mansion that was previously owned by famous country music artist Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been saved from being torn down, as the current owners changed their minds following public backlash.

Twitty had an estate in Hendersonville, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, Tennessee. This estate was not just a private residence but also a popular tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They decided to transform it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the property is primarily used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished for a specific reason. In December 2023, a tornado hit the area and caused damage to the structural stability of the old Twitty mansion. As a result, Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan entailed demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to create space for a planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. This proposal received significant attention from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, TBN has now altered its plans after receiving feedback from the public. Additionally, TBN had a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the extra financial burden it may bring, the priority was doing what was deemed right by the city.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed at this time. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property in a way that pays tribute to the influential figure in country music.
