Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Music History

  • by

The former mansion of country music icon Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been rescued from being demolished. The current owners had initially intended to tear it down, but they changed their plans after receiving strong opposition from the public.

Located in the wealthy Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Twitty's estate was not only his personal residence but also a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after his passing in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They decided to transform it into an entertainment complex, which is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.

Conway Twitty's home was at risk of being demolished due to damage caused by a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who works for TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the structures on the property except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to allow for an expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The plan received significant attention from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN has now altered their plans after considering public feedback and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding the fate of Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional financial burden, the focus was not on the cost but rather on doing what was deemed appropriate.

The details of how TBN plans to save the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the facility in a way that pays tribute to the renowned country icon.
