The former mansion of country music icon Conway Twitty, located near Nashville, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had originally planned to tear it down, but they had a change of heart after receiving public backlash.
Twitty had a property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, which was known as Twitty City. This estate was a popular tourist attraction but was later bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network after Twitty passed away in 1993. The property was then transformed into an entertainment complex and is currently being used as the location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's former mansion was at risk of being demolished due to a tornado that hit the area in December of 2023. The tornado caused damage to the structural integrity of the mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The proposal suggested demolishing all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for the planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The proposal received significant attention and scrutiny from the media.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, after receiving feedback from the public and having a meeting with Twitty's daughter, Joni Ryles, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans. This decision was reported by WKRN in Nashville.
The decision to determine the future of Conway Twitty's house was made after carefully considering the opinions of the city, seeking guidance through prayer, and consulting with various individuals. Despite the potential financial burden, the primary concern was doing what was deemed right.
The details of how TBN plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion have not been disclosed yet. However, Amedia, who had expressed his desire to utilize the property, aims to pay tribute to the influential figure in the country music industry through this facility.
