Woman Calls Cops on Mom for Stealing Credit Card to Splurge on Fast Food and Clothes

  • by

A Reddit user is questioning her decision to involve the police after discovering that her mother used her credit card without permission to make purchases for fast food and clothing.

Several weeks ago, the woman's mother requested a loan of approximately $500 from her daughter. The mother assured her daughter that she would repay the borrowed amount through Cash App once she received her upcoming paycheck. The woman firmly declined her mother's request and despite her mother's attempt to argue, she stood her ground and the matter was dropped.

A week later, though, she realized that her credit card was nowhere to be found.

She mentioned that she had accessed her online account to make a payment for the balance because she had received her check earlier that morning. To her surprise, the balance was significantly higher than what she had anticipated. Among the expected charges for her electric bill, phone bill, and gas, there were also several charges that she knew were not made by her. These charges were related to fast food, clothing stores, and other similar expenses.

Suspecting a possible error, the woman decided to contact her credit card company and also attempted to recall any potential instances where she might have unintentionally misplaced her card. Surprisingly, when she confided in her mother regarding her concerns about the stolen card, her mother confessed that she was actually the one in possession of the card.

When I informed my mother about the incident, she assured me not to be concerned as the item was not stolen but only borrowed by her. I admit that I became upset once I realized she was being serious. She reassured me that she would transfer the money through Cash App when she received her payment the following day, and she believed she could resolve the situation before I even realized it.

The woman, filled with anger, instructed her mother to physically destroy the card since she had already taken the necessary steps to render it inactive. In response, her mother scolded her for behaving like an entitled child instead of assisting her.

The situation became more intense, and I did use offensive language towards her before instructing her not to get in touch with me and ending the call. Following that, I contacted the police in both my location and hers to determine the appropriate jurisdiction for pressing charges.

The woman stated that her mother has been contacting her excessively, to the point where she had to block her. Her mother is also sharing on Facebook about how the woman is causing her to go back to jail just because she borrowed some money. Additionally, she expresses her confusion about how she raised a child who is unwilling to share.

Familial conflict arises following a disagreement over the sharing of a streaming service.

The readers in the comments section suggested that the woman should take legal action and also speculated that her mother might have had previous encounters with the law.

"Sent back to prison? So it seems like your mother has a tendency to not follow the law? Well, you made the correct decision. Don't give in, take legal action. She is not someone you should have in your life," a commenter expressed.

One individual stated that someone's mother has engaged in credit card fraud. In the United States, this is considered a serious crime and will be treated accordingly. The person suggests that the mother should have considered the consequences before committing such an act. To avoid returning to jail, it would have been wise for her to refrain from stealing.

"Don't allow her to manipulate you with guilt. It seems like there has been a recurring pattern of such behavior in your past, and you have multiple valid reasons for making this decision, not just one incident. Having this toxic influence in your life is unnecessary," another person added their perspective.
