Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved From Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after receiving public backlash.

Twitty's property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, was not only his estate but also a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into a multifaceted entertainment complex. Currently, the property is being utilized as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.

The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished was because it was damaged by a tornado that hit the area in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who represents the real estate division of TBN, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved tearing down all the structures on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make room for a studio expansion and senior living facilities. This plan received a lot of attention from the media.

After receiving negative feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who opposed the demolition, TBN has decided to alter its plans. Initially, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted against TBN, as reported by WKRN in Nashville.

The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional cost, the city felt it was the right thing to do.

The details of how TBN plans to preserve the Twitty Mansion have not been revealed yet. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the property in order to pay tribute to the remarkable legacy of the renowned country icon.
