The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to demolish the property, but they changed their minds after facing public opposition and realizing it was the right decision to preserve the historic home.
Twitty's property, located in the wealthy Nashville neighborhood of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also the location of his well-known tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network and transformed into an entertainment complex. Currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show, Huckabee.
Conway Twitty's home was in danger of being demolished because it was damaged by a tornado in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who works for TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to make room for a studio expansion and senior living facilities. The plan received a lot of attention from the media.
After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to alter its plans. This decision came after TBN took into account public feedback and had a meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, including discussions with the community and prayer. Despite the financial implications, the priority was doing what was deemed right.
TBN has not provided any details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the property as a way to pay tribute to the influential country singer.
