Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Spared from Demolition: The Power of Public Outcry

  • by

The former mansion of country music legend Conway Twitty, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but due to public opposition, they have decided to reconsider their plans.

Twitty had an estate located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, near Nashville. This estate was not only his residence but also a popular tourist attraction known as Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex and currently, it is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show called Huckabee.

The reason why Conway Twitty's home was set to be demolished is because a tornado hit the area in December of 2023 and caused damage to the structural stability of the former Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission to demolish all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater. This was to create space for the planned expansion of the studio and the construction of senior living facilities. The media paid close attention to this plan and it received a lot of scrutiny.

After the Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN, the television network has decided to modify its plans. This decision was influenced by feedback from the public and a meeting between Amedia, the network's representative, and Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty who had previously expressed opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and discussions with various individuals. Despite the additional financial burden, the decision was made based on the belief that it was the right course of action.

TBN has not provided any details about how they will save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia, who expressed his desire to utilize the property to honor the country legend's legacy, has made this statement before.
