A Reddit user is questioning her decision to involve the police after discovering that her mother had taken her credit card without permission to make purchases at fast food restaurants and buy clothing.
Some time ago, the woman's mother requested a loan of approximately $500 from her daughter. The mother promised to repay the borrowed money through Cash App once she received her next paycheck. The woman declined her mother's request, and despite her mother's attempts to argue, she firmly stood her ground and the matter was dropped.
In the week that followed, she realized that her credit card was nowhere to be found.
She described how she accessed her account through the internet to settle her remaining amount after her check was deposited earlier that day. To her surprise, the balance displayed was significantly higher than what she had anticipated. Among the expected charges for her electricity, phone, and gas bills, she noticed several additional charges that were clearly unrelated to her. These charges were for fast food, clothing stores, and other expenses.
Suspecting a possible error, the lady decided to contact her credit card provider and attempted to recollect any potential instances of misplacing her card. Nevertheless, as she confided in her mother about her concerns regarding the stolen card, her mother unexpectedly disclosed that she was actually the person in possession of the card.
Upon informing my mother about the incident, she assured me not to be concerned as the item in question was not stolen but rather borrowed by her. Admittedly, I became agitated when I realized she was not joking. She reassured me that she would transfer the money through Cash App once she received her payment the following day, and she believed she would resolve the situation before I even became aware of it.
The angry woman instructed her mother to shred the card because she had already disabled it. However, her mother scolded her for behaving immaturely and uncooperatively when it came to assisting her.
The situation became more intense, and I used derogatory language towards her before instructing her not to reach out to me or visit me, and then I ended the call. Following that, I contacted the police in both my location and hers to determine the appropriate police station where I could file charges.
The woman mentioned that her mother has been excessively contacting her through phone calls, to the point where she had to block her. In addition, her mother has been sharing posts on Facebook, claiming that she is being sent back to jail simply for borrowing some money. The woman expressed her disbelief at how her mother raised a child who is perceived as selfish.

Readers in the comments section suggested that the woman should file charges and also discussed the possibility that her mother might have had previous encounters with the legal system.

One person commented that the individual's mother engaged in credit card fraud, which is considered a serious crime in the United States. They pointed out that such actions are punishable by law and should have been considered by the mother before committing the fraud. The commenter suggested that if she didn't want to return to jail, she should have refrained from stealing.

It seems like there has been a consistent pattern of such behavior in your past, and you have multiple valid reasons for your actions, not just one isolated incident. You should not tolerate this negative and harmful influence in your life," another individual added their opinion.
