Conway Twitty’s Former Mansion Saved from Demolition: A Victory for Country Music History

  • by

The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash. They decided to preserve the historic property, considering it the right thing to do in response to the public's concerns.

Twitty's property, located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was not only his personal estate but also the location of his famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was bought by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex, which is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's show called Huckabee.

Why was Conway Twitty's house going to be demolished?

In December of 2023, a tornado hit the area and caused damage to the old Twitty mansion. Frank Amedia, who works for TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan suggested demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to create space for a studio expansion and senior living facilities. This proposal received significant attention from the media.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen initially voted against TBN. However, WKRN in Nashville has reported that TBN has reconsidered its plans after receiving feedback from the public and meeting with Joni Ryles, Twitty's daughter, who had previously expressed her opposition to the demolition.

The decision to take action regarding Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, discussions with the community, and prayer. Despite the additional cost, the importance of doing the right thing was prioritized.

TBN has not released any details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the place as a way to pay tribute to the influential country music figure.
