The historic mansion formerly owned by country music icon Conway Twitty in the Nashville area has been saved from destruction. The current owners have changed their minds about demolishing the property because of the public's strong opposition. They believe it is the right decision to preserve the iconic home.
Twitty's property in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a wealthy suburb of Nashville, was not only his estate but also the location of the famous Twitty City tourist attraction. However, after Twitty passed away in 1993, the property was acquired by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. They transformed it into an entertainment complex which is currently being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
Conway Twitty's former mansion was in danger of being demolished due to the damage caused by a tornado in December 2023. Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, proposed a plan to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property except for the Huckabee Theater. This was done to create space for the studio's expansion and the construction of senior living facilities. The plan attracted significant attention from the media.
After receiving negative feedback and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, TBN has decided to alter its plans following an initial vote by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that was not in their favor. According to WKRN in Nashville, TBN has taken into account public opinion and discussions with Ryles, who had previously voiced her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration, prayer, and discussions with others. The city's opinion was taken into account, and despite the additional expense involved, it was believed to be the right course of action.
TBN has not yet provided details about how they plan to preserve the Twitty Mansion, but Amedia expressed his desire to utilize the space in a way that pays tribute to the renowned country artist's lasting impact.
