The former mansion of Conway Twitty, a famous country music artist, located in the Nashville area, has been saved from being demolished. The current owners had initially planned to tear it down, but they changed their minds after facing public backlash.
Located in the wealthy suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Twitty's estate was not only his residence but also a famous tourist attraction called Twitty City. However, after Twitty's passing in 1993, the property was acquired by Trinity Broadcasting Network, who transformed it into an entertainment complex. Currently, the estate is being used as the filming location for Mike Huckabee's Huckabee show.
The reason why Conway Twitty's home was going to be demolished was because a tornado had hit the area in December of 2023, causing damage to the structural stability of the old Twitty mansion. In response, Frank Amedia, who represents TBN's real estate division, presented a proposal to the Hendersonville Planning Commission. The plan involved demolishing all the buildings on the property, except for the Huckabee Theater, in order to make space for a future expansion of the studio and the addition of senior living facilities. The plan received significant attention from the media.
After a preliminary vote from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, TBN initially faced opposition. However, according to a report from WKRN in Nashville, TBN has decided to alter its original plans after considering public feedback and meeting with Joni Ryles, the daughter of Twitty, who had previously voiced her opposition to the demolition.
The decision to do something with Conway Twitty's house was made after careful consideration and prayer. Despite the additional cost involved, the sentiment of the city and the meeting with concerned individuals convinced them that it was the right thing to do.
TBN has not provided any details about how they plan to save the Twitty Mansion. However, Amedia has expressed his desire to utilize the space to pay tribute to the enduring legacy of the renowned country icon.
